Custodian
The Bosler Memorial Library in Carlisle, PA, seeks a Custodian. This position performs cleaning and minor maintenance of the library building and grounds to ensure the comfortable, clean, convenient, and safe operation of the Library for both its patrons and staff.
This is a part-time, 20 hours per week position to include day, evening and weekend hours. The starting salary for this position is $11.62 per hour. This position is non-exempt status.
While the stated required and preferred education and experience are ideal, the Library recognizes that every person has a unique set of educational and experience skillsets. The Library will, at its discretion, consider each candidate and select the candidate it feels is best suited for the position regardless of whether the candidate meets the following criteria.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Some knowledge of, or the ability to learn, public building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment, and the ability to apply, operate, and use them economically, efficiently and safely.
- Ability to use power equipment, buffers, carpet cleaners, lawn mowers, etc.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a self-directed environment.
Physical Requirements
Work demands the ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps; and to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Ability to seize, hold grasp, turn, or otherwise work with the hands. Ability to lift objects of up to 60 pounds, push and pull heavy objects of up to 250 pounds with the use of trucks, carts or dollies, and regularly lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

Specific Functions and Responsibilities
- Carries out custodial tasks according to a regular schedule with a minimum of supervision.
- Performs assigned maintenance of public areas, staff work areas, storage areas, stairways, and offices, keeping in a clean, orderly, safe and sanitary condition.
- Performs year round upkeep of the library grounds including cutting the grass, raking, picking up litter, shoveling snow, sanding/salting of sidewalks and care of shrubbery and plantings.
- Empties trash and recycling receptacles and prepares them for regular pick up.
- Maintains an orderly and sufficient supply of cleaning materials and notifies the Facilities Manager of re-ordering requirements.
- Performs routine upkeep of library furnishings and arrangement, including meeting room setups as necessary.
- Promptly notifies Facilities Manager if repairs or maintenance are required of the building systems such as electrical, plumbing, security, heating and air conditioning, and fire protection.
- Performs upkeep of the Library’s physical appearance by performing minor tasks such as painting, carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing.
- Performs related work as required.
Environmental Conditions
Primarily works indoors though some outdoor work may be required.

- Registers patrons for library cards and updates borrower records, explaining basic policies, and procedures.
- Assists in the promotion of library collections, programs, and services.
- Assesses fines and fees for late returns, damaged items, lost materials, and other related situations. Records transactions, makes changes and issues receipts.
- Answers phone inquiries, routes calls to appropriate staff, and takes messages.
- Inspects items for damage. Follows through on lost and damaged materials processes when appropriate.
- Routes items as received by the library through interlibrary loan and other means.
- Processes hold requests.
- Empties book drops on a regular basis and transfers materials accordingly.
- Assists in maintaining the physical appearance of facility and order of collections through straightening, shelving, shelf-reading, weeding, and upkeep of displays.
- Assists in searching for holds, claims returned, lost, long-overdue, and other items as needed.
- Performs opening and closing procedures.
- Performs related work as required.

Cleve J. Fredricksen Library in Camp Hill is seeking a Public Services Specialist to create a positive experience for each library customer. The successful candidate will actively assist customers at our circulation desk by locating items, checking out and returning materials, providing instruction of print and non-print resources, providing support for use of library equipment and aide customers in finding answers to their questions. Summary of Job Responsibilities: The Facilities Manager ensures that the building and grounds of the library are well-maintained. This position also includes seeking bids and/or best prices for goods and services needed for the maintenance of the library in consultation with the Executive Director and/or Library Board Property Committee Chair. This is a part-time (20 hours per week) position with flexible hours and possibly more hours when necessary. Pay rate: $20/hour.
Essential Functions:
- Acts as a contact for building vendors and seeks estimates for building work
- Assists in purchasing building equipment and furniture, reviews and approves all building related invoices
- Develops and maintains a facility project filing system to include project proposals/estimates, status, and inspection reports
- Develops and maintains a filing system to include equipment manuals, contracts, service records and purchase history
- Routinely surveys the building and mechanical systems for needed repairs or replacements. Develops a plan/proposal for the repairs/replacement and reviews the plan with the appropriate library staff and facilities committee. Develops a preventive maintenance schedule for library building and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
- Contributes to the Emergency Procedures Manual
- Sets up community room for programs and events
- Responds to after-hours building emergencies and security incidents.

Program Coordinator-Part Time

Cleve J. Fredricksen Library seeks a highly motivated and energetic individual to plan all library adult programs, including everything from our language classes to community concerts. The successful candidate should be team-oriented and creative. This position will organize multiple events at one time and maintain/create relationships with current and/or new program specialists/instructors. Schedule: At least 10-25 hours per week based on the needs of the library. This position will work closely with the library director to develop a schedule that meets the needs of the library. This is an IN-PERSON position.
